Together with Hamilton’s coolest branding studio, kitestring creative branding studio‘s team developed a easy to swallow story book all about baking brands. The story book follows a young girl with the desire to provide a better service/product to the consumers in her neighbourhood. This story teaches that when creating your own brand you can’t mix “willy-nilly”. Research, strategize and bake with intention. That’s how you’ll end up with the sweetest, most delicious cupcake.
Who doesn’t love a good pattern? They’re reliable, constant and forever repeating themselves. I’ve always been attracted to the simple patterns found outside. Lines, shapes, textures – all found in these “see-them-everyday” gems called, patterns. To celebrate my love of repetition, I created a set of cards that each feature a hand drawn pattern. This set of cards was sold at The Art Cellar and during the Hamilton Makers’ Market 2010 season.
I created this zine, titled make, to collect various doodles, patterns, textures and ideas that I had drifting across my desk. make was printed using a vibrant, limited colour palette of CMY (minus the K). Printed by my pal CopyDog on recycled paper using vegetable-based inks. make features many of my personal favourites – bright colours, simple patterns, natural textures, quirky hand type, organic shapes, imperfect lines and plants.
The Art Cellar was a artist co-operative that was started up in 2009 by a number of talented folks. Members of the group collaborated on creating an Art Cellar alphabet to promote our space. Each artist chose to either illustrate, paint, knit, cut, paste or collage their own letter. In the end, the team created a poster and a series of individual letter cards that were sold in Hamilton. A portion of the money raised was given to the Hamilton Youth Arts Network (HYAN) to use on a specific pilot project for their group.
For the past five years I have been volunteering my design skills to Hamilton’s Remembrance Day Veteran’s Lunch. Each year the organizing committee and myself come up with a new concept for a thoughtful take-home item. This past year, I designed a mug and tote bag saying, “A Hero is Always Remembered”. As you can guess, we had to order a lot more. The veterans and their guests loved them!
In August of 2010, Augusta Street had the best block party in Hamilton! The event organizer teamed up with kitestring creative branding studio and we created some urban, vibrant visuals to reflect the bumpin’ block party theme.
When was the last time you sent your friend or loved one a salutation? If you’re anything like me, probably not very often. I’ve made it my 2011 goal to send more written words to friends who are far away. These are some shots of some small and not-as-small note cards that I illustrated just for your note writing needs.
Here’s some shots of a pin-back button collection I was selling at the Hamilton Maker’s Market on James Street North. Individually cool but, when they are in a group, SO COOL! The quarter inch buttons featured colourful cropped images of some of my work.
